Nice video, I understand how hard it is to get 10 minutes of anything let alone you made a 50+ minute into 10… I really like what you say about critiquing your own work and how your so close with it what you don’t like others can love. I shared it on my facebook wall…Nice to meet you Scary Dave, I did not know who you were before tonight and I am so glad I found this video. Awesome Dude!
depens on the leather type. Best leather form the supreme shift is most expensive (about 1-4 mm thick) costs about 110 euros for 2.5 square meters
dropdeadugly100: Depends upon the quality, thickness and brand. Roughly speaking it’s around 3-6 bucks a square foot.
How much does leather cost.
i am an artist. so if you like art you should check out my video.
deprez2000 : Thank you for the kind words.
Man ur awesome ^^
Lengsel7: Always good to be a little different
So nice to see something that doesn’t look like the Tandy catalog. This makes me want to pick up my tools again, thanks.
Steam punk sounds awesome, i would love to see that.
@thechurchofdave sweet cuz I’ve been trying to come up with this idea for a year now.
@nativehoney5 I would love to work for the dancers. I have actually done trades with a silver smith in Santa Fe. I would be more than happy to do your turtle for you. Custom orders are what I do most.
Dude if u sold to native american dancers. U’d make so much no joke. I’ve been trying to make a turtle on leather but thought it was impossible. DO u do custom orders
Brilliant! Love your work, thanks for sharing with us!
@ASSEMblerEX : There seem to be enough people doing acorns and oak leaves or Sheridan style stuff. I am bout to go into Steampunk stuff though. We shall see. Right now I like tattoo influenced stuff.
Good skills, too bad all your work is lowbrow or macabre.
GrayBird28 : You can get a good start with a basic tool set from Tandy leather or ebay or hide crafters. A swivel knife, smooth and checkered bevelers a mallet/maul and a leather working spoon is all you really need to do figure carving.
Hello there! i think yo are a great artist…I too am an artist, but I never worked with leather…Can you please sennd me a list of the tools you used in this vid as well as what kind of paint or ink,,,,please. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Thanks for sharing your craft with us. Now we can do it ourselves instead of paying someone to do it for us.
mfalzon: I do not make my own tools but a person could.
I have heard of a guy who uses nothing but a sharpened fathead screwdriver.
Anything can be done once you practice enough I suppose. If you want to make your own tools try going through catalogues and looking at the tools for sale and then copy them. Bevelers are the most important tools to have.
Thanks for sharing your craft with us. You are a real artisan! Can you make the tools yourself?
machine1376: Glad you liked it.
There will be plenty more of this sorta stuff coming in the near future. I am looking forward to doing lots more “How to” videos on various types of useful art.
thanks for the video man. I am about start working with leather and I appreciate people like you giving advice and techniques. As an artist in the computer media, I am also critical of my work, just comes with the territory. My “crap” is something someone else really likes. Very weird…
What y’all need to remember is this: No onew was born knowing how to do stuff. Anyone who is good at anything got there by making mounds of crap. I carve wood and turn wood, and every project goes throw what I call the ‘crap stage’ or the ‘why-did-I ever-think-this-was-a-good-idea-its-never-gonna-turn-out-the-way-I-picture-it’ stage. I sell my finished goods, and jocan is right, the customers never see all the flaws you do. We are all our own harshest critic.
Thanks so much for posting your video! It was great to watch you; I just started learning the art of tooling leather and it is interesting to see how efficiently (is that the word I want?) you tool. Thanks again!
